Sand Words

Sand like your eyes
time-glass hour piece
contrasts, inverted
lives and deaths

If you could bite your tongue
and tell me your thoughts
telepathy doesn't equate sympathy
but it offers an antidote to lost time

Precious is what Precious does
good baptisms may fade to dust
heart is kind but cruel has branches
seeds need love
seeds must survive

Hope has written with swords and goblets
ink-rain on paper earth
lives are written
lives betray
death needs his own deathbed

even if eternity
spots a fine line
a rupture to mortality

even if sands are but broken glass
we might mend artifacts

lost time can wage
lost time can make
all delusional
all real

efface not
efface not
want merely
desire merely

don't let that be bound
you flesh symmetry

Listen

Are you listening to me?

No wait don't stop. I see you were listening. It was me who digressed. I apologize. It was not an option I wanted to choose. But I had chosen it. Readily. I know I'm quite destructive. Self-destructive. I don't know why. Maybe I am a masochist. No, that's not true.

Truth is I am lost. I haven't had the right hands. The right tongues. To taste. No, do not take off your clothes. My intention is not to stimulate. Not the erogenous anyway. I wish to stimulate you. With my tongue, brain, vocal chords. A trinity in practice. Then what of soul and heart? Yes this practice is pentagonal or possibly hetegeneously-homogeneous.

I adore it.

Call it the original phase of erotic.

Its like wine only the grapes can be swallowed via air, tongue, hand and mind - yes the genitals can be stirred be it all the dish of metamorphosis and ardent awakenings to the street that you haven't explored it.

You begin with street. Then slowly angle with place - as in nerighbourhood, area - then it becomes country and continents and all those things. Even planets - an analogous milky way - astronauts and philosophers make great bedfellows.

Yes, I am constantly looking at you. It's nice to look at people. Its nice. To just look. If you can look I can look as well. So please let me look. Let me engulf you in my eyes. Beyond skin and bones. Beyond flesh. Let's have a slice of mind together with some tea. With some sugary teeth. With some sipping-sipful. Let's warm us up in exotica and erotica galore like this.

Yes we don;t have have to touch sex to do that. That's the simple part. Those are the simple bits. Let's put ourselves in the shoes of others. Let us race through bedlam and brain. Let us course through and see courses.

Are you listening to me?

Don't Know :P

Don't know what to study for tomorrows exam. It's my first finals of the semester and I hope I do well INSHALLAH. Though I have no idea how to approach this subject. Anyways its because the material is kinda haphazard and not the Brownian goodness kind.

No One Sings to The Bird

No one can love a bird - we have to think - no one can love the bird - it's the song alone we hear and our veins, like liquorice, gets sucked into the doom.

The bird sits and sings. Sings and sits. Builds a nest around. Around was a nest. Sure, it sings.

But, who sings to the bird?

In our withered nests we sit. Overgrown eggs. Cuckoo smiles. Eyeing larger than life tid bits.

And the bird sings.

The cage our eye - beholed by our bars.

Bro Leaving For The Outback tomorrow

As nature would have it, it is essentially there in many places of the animal kingdom that a child, be it cub or fawn, goes off to create the tracks of one's own life. The human sphere, however, is one species where one is never isolated from the herd despite the isolation of presence.

Well, this is hard to explain to the loving Mom and Dad who are obviously upset that my bro is leaving tomorrow (27th March). Obviously I am upset too but truthfully a tad bit more envious. Australia is not a visited landscape. I can only taste it through photographs or National Geographic. It is a lush place and a continent of newness that Dhaka, the capital that I live in, has very much lost in exchange for massive, pathological urbanization.

I do not feel that saddened as I am proud of my brother's accomplishment of being able to live abroad to pursue an education. I am happy too as he will be with his wife who, though they have been only married last year, had to leave within a short span as she is the student of the University of Sydney. In fact, for around 9 months my bro and she had been separated until, with the great hearts given to my Father and Mother by Allah Almighty, were reunited on November to my awestruck brother's befuddlement (it was a surprise in which he clutched his chest, his young heart taking in the enormity of it).

He will be leaving tomorrow to a new chapter.

I will miss him dearly, due to the very fact that is non-negotiable. He is my brother and I love him unconditionally. I had great times with him and for him also some bad times with him and for him. I will obviously miss the part where my computer breaks down and I pull him out from his room, a ritual of shouting and screaming, until he decides he will fix it. I will also miss the part where I would enforce him to hand me some DVDs that I could watch them in my leisure. I know that these times will come back INSHALLAH when he returns but as Dad with his scholar's wisdom has spoken truthfully: some things are not going to be the same, but, hopefully, they will not differ beyond our comprehension. I know they will not be entirely the same but each phase of life is not meant to be the same thus I accept it as realistically as anyone would.

I pray to Allah Almighty that my brother receives the best of the offers that life can give and happiness unwavering.

Well set for a new chapter in life GOOD LUCK BROTHER! I LOVE YOU!

An Opinion On The State Of Women's Right In Bangladesh (ENG 440 Print Media Assignment: 541 words)

What is a woman? A woman is the “fairer-sex”, a “submissive”, an “inferior” thus must always be kept within boundaries: this seems to be the prevalent ideology that surrounds women. West or East does not do much to dismantle it – though the East has been romanticized as the nation of female mutilation/subjugation while the West its opposite, a statement from UN-Secretary, General Ban Ki-Moon, illustrates the truth:

“ Most societies prohibit such violence – yet the reality is that too often, it is covered up or tacitly condoned.”

Violence against females is omnipresent in the world be it in secular states or religious ones. The crimes against women are various: physical rape, emotional rape, acid burning, and flogging to preserve a religious belief – all these are happening on a global scale but are highlighted in developing countries such as Bangladesh.

Yesterday is an African woman. She is illiterate. She has a daughter and is a housewife. She finds out from a doctor that she has AIDS. As she is not promiscuous she decides to ask her husband to tell her the truth. Instead, he savagely beats her. Yesterday knows that death is imminent thus her only goal now is to give her daughter the education she could not have. Yesterday is the eponymous character of the African film Yesterday which was nominated for Best Foreign Film in 2005. Though the story is fictional and has an African setting the situation in Bangladesh is no different.

Despite the presence of social welfare gropus and women’s rights movements, violence persists – be it a rural setting or an urban one. “Setting” is important for many people have the misconception that urban women are “free”. They are not. Though some women are able to have a desired profession, their numbers do not thrive.

Basically, a woman must guard her modesty, refrain from being too social and must aspire to become a mother and a housewife: these limiting roles are still integrated into the young girls of today. A flexible lifestyle is inhibited by incorporating fears of religious immorality or social indecency. To a man, many restrictions do not apply. In fact, promiscuity in a man is many a times outrageously forgiven whereas in a woman it is taboo. This phenomenon is noticed in recent sex scandals: women who are shown in pornographic material are ousted by society despite the fact that some of these women have had no knowledge of being recorded in such situations. Their only crime is pre-marital sex. However, their male partners, who had shamelessly made profit by exposing their intimate acts, are never questioned for their actions.

The definition of a criminal is still limited to thief and murderer as a recent cover story of The Daily Star Weekend Magazine has shown that even in cases of rape and adultery the women are blamed regardless of $the situation or evidence stating otherwise.

I believe that women can only be free from such ludicrous biases when they are not looked down upon as the inferior sex. It is important to teach people that humans are equal regardless of what sex they are born with. So, we must celebrate both the sexes and not punish or reward anyone for being a man or women.
